Darling Of The Month // Hannah’s Bananas

the Blog

We are definitely going bananas over the darling this month. Hannah does not only bring the best treats to the party, but she is the absolute sweetest.

Q: Give us your best “15 second elevator pitch” on who you are!
A: I am a twenty-something year old girl from Huntington Beach, CA with a MAJOR sweet tooth and a love for creativity. I own Hannah’s Bananas, a chocolate covered, frozen banana catering company based out of Southern California.

Q: Sometimes its hard to stay motivated in this industry, what inspires you daily?
A: Truth be told:

1. It ALL begins with a good cup of coffee.
2. It’s easy to feel discouraged in an industry with SO much talent.
I
have to remind myself often about what inspires me to keep rolling with Hannah’s Bananas. For me, I’m motivated by the excitement of what’s to come for Hannah’s Bananas and the unknown future. Lull days are way out numbered by days filled with new business adventures, fun client phone calls, or getting to think up new creative ideas. I’m also SO inspired by many other small business entrepreneurs, which have now become friends, and are in my same position choosing to run a small business and follow a passion. If they can do it, so can I.

Q: What is your number 1 tip for someone trying to start their own business?
A: It’s going to be uncomfortable for a bit, but be brave! If you know you have something good going and you love doing it, throw caution to the wind and dive in. For almost four years after college I worked an 8-5 office job because it was comfortable, but behind my desk I was always searching to do something more, something creative, something with people, and when I stepped back from comfortable I found that it had been right in front of me the whole time. It wasn’t easy, and there was a lot of caution before taking that step, but looking back I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long. Be open to learn as you go, confident in what you’re doing, and ready to work hard. The rest will fall into place. Just go for it!

Q: You’re attending a party/event. What small details do you seem to notice first?
A: Party décor/planning has always been a love of mine so when I walk into the party, quite frankly, the first thing I notice IS the small details. From customized napkins, to balloons, to confetti on the tables, to me it’s all about the details. I’m a sucker for all things gold and think florals are a party must!

Q: Best advice you’ve received in this industry and from who.
A: “Always make yourself (or brand) seem bigger than you are.” This piece of advice has shown up several times in the last year from other business owners that have once been in my same position. I’ve found that when you start thinking of the company as bigger, you become more confident in your brand and start to think on a larger scale. That’s where growth begins.

Q: What’s the most memorable event you’ve ever attended/thrown and why?
A: Last October marked ten (yes, 10!) years since the idea of Hannah’s Bananas began as my high school senior project so naturally I threw a party. Although Hannah’s Bananas didn’t turn from high school project to a business until nine years after it was given an A-grade, I thought it would be fun to bring together all the people that had been on the banana-team over the last decade to say a BIG thank you. All in one place I had my family, past-coworkers, neighbors, clients, and even friends who once saw it just as a high school project. That day, over champagne and frozen bananas, I was reminded of the teamwork that has been poured into this little company and how loved it truly is. This party was thrown just three months after I decided to go full-time with Hannah’s Bananas. The timing of it all could not have been more perfect because during that very beginning, and sometimes really rocky stage, I would think back to this party and be inspired by the love and support I felt that day.

So if you’re looking for the most incredible dessert for your next event, now you know where to turn without a doubt! Sprinkles, bananas, coconut, peanuts & chocolate sauce… We’re sold!
